Three Ways Of Centerless Grinding
If you have grinding needs, you would be smart to consider giving centerless grinding a chance. Unlike traditional grinding, centerless grinding isn't restricted by having to use a spindle.Centerless grinding is a very relaible way to grind your part. When a centerless grinder is used, the material which you put into the grinder doesn't have to be handled nearly as much, as it would with a traditional grinder. Because the material doesn't have to be handled as much, you will be able to have more pieces completed in a less amount of time. This of course, saves you time and money. Did you know there are actually three types of centerless grinding? Read on to find out what they are.
The three types of centerless grinding are: Infeed, through feed, and end feed.
Infeed Grinding
One of the more important attributes of doing infeed grinding is the centerline height of the material as it sits on the centerless work rest blade.However, probably most important to implementing infeed grinding is that the workblades and wheel settings are properly set on the grinding machines so that your material a ground round instead of oblong. Otherwise, the grinder will not be able to do a good grinding job on the pieces. Proper setup of workblades is absolutely neessary.During infeed grinding, the materials are placed into the grind area and are moved across the workblades to a pre-determined depth. Infeed grinding is closest to plunge grinding on center type grinders.What the two of them have in common is that the workpiece being worked on is held still in the axial direction while the machine grinds the pieces.
Through Feed Grinding
Through feed grinding is especially handy when you have a large amount of pieces done in a short amount of time. You can just load the material into the centerless grinders and allow the cant of the regulating wheel pull the material cross the workblade as the grinding wheel does its job and put the next piece in.The regulating wheel during through-feed grinding is placed on an inclined plane. The regulating wheel is adjusted on an incline so the material will properly pass across the workblade.In this process, the regulating wheel perfoms two things.The regulating wheel turns the parts on top of the workblade and against the abrasive wheel. This type of through feed grinding allows the grinder to much more efficiently and speedily grind the material being fed into it.
End Feed Grinding
The last type of centerless grinding, and less commonly used compared to the above two, is end feed grinding.End feed grinding involves having materiala part move past the workblade axially; then the parts pauses while the part is being ground.The part is then moved out of the workblade area.This way of centerless grinding allows you to have a greater range of shapes.However, the workblade on the end feed grinding setup will only allow the piece being ground to get smaller in diameter.
No matter what kind of centerless grinding you do, it's important that you make sure all of your regulating wheels are set up properly in relation to the workblades on your machines. If the parts aren't coming out correctly, then it's more than likely the regulating wheels on your machines aren't properly set up to accommodate the workblade height. Centerless grinding is a great way to put out a lot of production with very little set up and material handling.

claim that the grinding machine is the best way to "euthanize" them.

There are many reason this is done, no one ever said this was a nice world we live in.
For every female chick that hatches there is a male too. I'm not talking small numbers here, in the UK, 5 million pullets are required each week to supply the demand of these birds.What would you do with 5 million males?
Males from egg producing strains are small, they take anything up to 6 months to get a decent size before they can be eaten. Being a hybrid they are useless to breed from.
So others way of thinking, we must keep them. Ok, you would need more land for them to house and free range, you will need more land to grow the food they need, you will need more labour to look after these birds.
Where is all this extra land coming from? It is not being made any more. The Land we have is getting smaller from house building to house the growing population of humans and once it's gone, there's only up you can build.
I'm not saying the grinding machine is acceptable, there are other methods hatcheries can use. But what every method is used it has to be done.
