Cabot, Pioneer among S&P 500 leaders (Market Watch)
NEW YORK (MarketWatch) -- Cabot Oil & Gas jumped 4.9% to $84.24 as one of the
top gainers among components of the Standard & Poor's 500 Index well co on
Thursday. Analysts at Brean Murray Carret & Co. said in a note to clients that
their price target of $98 a share for Cabot appears to be conservative, based
partly on the comapny's lower projected well costs in 2012. Separately,
Pioneer Natural Resources Co. jumped 3.5%. Goldman Sachs analysts listed
Pioneer Natural among energy firms poised to benefit from growth in the Eagle
Ford and Wolfcamp shales in Texas and the Marcellus shale of Pennsylvania.
Goldman Sachs analysts tapped Pioneer Natural as one of its three favorites
among oil and gas exploration and production companies, along with Noble
Energy and EOG Resources .
