Achieve Smooth Wood Surfaces With Cabinet Scrapers - ToolsRUs
Cabinet scrapers are tools used by woodworkers to remove layers of wood from boards. Pre-milled lumber sold in stores is seldom perfectly true. It is up the cabinet maker to ensure that the wood they are working with is well formed, or else his wooden creations might end up irregularly shaped. Since scrapers are easy to re-edge and maintain, a worker shouldn't have to replace it frequently. Many woodworkers put a lot of stock in scrapers, especially for making things like tables and cabinets. When used correctly, it largely eliminates the need to sand a surface because it levels and smoothes wood at the same time.
Some products Bow Saw, Nail Punches, phillips screwdrivers
Flat and shaped like a rectangle, a cabinet scraper is made from extremely durable high-carbon steel. They come in a variety of sizes, commonly five or six inches long and are usually quite thin, often 0.6 or 0.8 millimetres. The working end of the scraper is its long edge. The tool must have a burnished or rounded long edge, creating what's known as a burr, in order to be useful. The burr is 0.05 millimetres or less, so it’s nearly impossible to see. Scrapers don’t come with a burr, so you will have to prepare them after purchase. To do this, you will only need a few tools and a few minutes.
If making a new burr on an existing scraper, first file off the old edge before moving on to the next step. Skip this step if you have purchased your scraper new. Remove an old burr by running a file along the broad side of scraper – on both sides. Since the narrow edge was rounded slightly the last time you made a burr, flatten it out again. The same file can be used to accomplish this. Finally, take a burnishing tool, which is made from very hard carbon steel, and push it hard against the steel edge, running it along the length of the scraper. This will cause the narrow edge to round a bit while creating a wave-like hook.
When using cabinet scrapers, go with the grain of the wood, so you don’t cause any gouges. Frequent sharpening is required, for scraper edges lose their burr in about ten minutes. You know it is time to smooth out the old burr and make a new one once you notice dust as opposed to shavings being produced when scraping.
has anyone ever used a thread repair kit?
i,m not talking about metal inserts,it,s some kind of paste or compound that replaces worn threads i was just wondering if it,s any good & does it work?
